The Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS) is an undergraduate medical degree course under AYUSH courses. The course deals with the foundation of ayurvedic and naturopathic treatments along with yogic science techniques. The BNYS course gives a basic education of integrated systems of modern medicine and traditional Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences. It prepares students of profound scholarship in the science of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences having basic and fundamental knowledge in different subjects of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences backed up by extensive practical training.

Naturopathy is a system that uses natural remedies to help the body to heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise and nutritional counselling. Naturopathy is a system of healthcare with a deep history of traditional philosophies and practices, medically trained practitioners and a breadth of natural treatment options to serve patients.

The study of Yoga is called Yogic Science. Originating from Sanskrit word ‘Yoga’ translates to ‘connection’ in simple words connection to inner-self. Yoga is a practice of combined efforts to keep the body and mind in best shape by doing Yoga asanas.

Yoga has been mentioned in many major texts of Hinduism such as Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata. Buddhism and Jainism have their own dedicated literature based on their own versions of Yoga. The science of all the aspects of Yoga is termed as 'Yogic Science'.

Duration

The Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (BNYS) is a 5.5-years graduate degree course. The students will study 4.5 years of BNYS degree and will also undergo one-year mandatory internship.

Eligibility

The students who have completed their PUC or 10+2 with PCB or CBZ with 50% aggregate percentage in all the subjects from a recognised board are eligible to apply for Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (BNYS).

The Ministry of AYUSH under the Government of India has not made the NEET-UG exam mandatory for getting admissions to BNYS courses. However, the students can take the benefits of counselling for getting admissions to BNYS courses, if they apply and qualify the NEET exam.

Affiliations and Approvals

    The BNYS course is offered at both Government University and Private Universities recognised under Central Council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Before going for details, it is always essential to understand the difference between Private University (Under Central Council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India) and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (Government university) in Bangalore.

  • The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), under Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is the sole governing body for all the courses of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy (AYUSH) offered in the country. All the colleges offering AYUSH courses must be recognised by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), Government of India and also the respective state governing bodies of the state (RGUHS in case of Karnataka).

  • Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is the sole university that is established or financed by the government of India and state governments to offer different courses in the country. The government universities are established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is duly recognised by Indian Medical Council (IMC) by default. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is the sole governing body under Government of India to offer courses in Medical Science, Allied Health Science courses across the country.

1. Merit Admissions

The first mode of admission is called a merit admission procedure. The students who are interested to join the BNYS degree should mandatorily appear for the NEET entrance exams and undergo counselling to choose their desired colleges for merit seats. The merit seats are allotted to the students according to their rankings and marks obtained by them in their PUC or 10+2 classes.

There are two types of counselling for the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science (BNYS) course.

  • Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Counselling
  • The students who are interested to join the government naturopathic colleges and other naturopathic colleges affiliated to the government should undergo the counselling procedures of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

    The students who intend to join for the merit seats under government quota are required to complete the counselling procedures and join for BNYS course in their chosen colleges. The naturopathic colleges under the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) are affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The fees are fixed by the government for merit admissions.

  • Medical Counselling Committee (MCC)
  • The students who are interested to join the private/deemed naturopathic colleges and universities that are affiliated to colleges and universities recognised by Central Council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The students are required to apply for the MCC counselling procedures for getting admissions to these colleges. The students should qualify the MCC counselling procedures to get admission to their desired private naturopathic educational institutions for Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS) programme.

2. Direct Admissions

The eligible students who have appeared for NEET-UG exam can also get admission to BNYS programme through direct admissions.
